BOYZ N THE HOOD

Edgy, gritty and violent debut with a bang behind the camera at the time 23 year old angry director John Singleton, who unceremoniously slams us face it without hope and life every day of the infamous black ghetto of South Central Los Angeles, taking us on a guided tour and upsetting between drugs, shootings and even racism as Spike Lee had never dared to do. It is in this jungle where it seems there is no other way out, if you do not abide by the laws of the road and crime, that will intertwine the stories of Tre (Cuba Gooding jr., Excellent), and the brothers Doughboy (Ice Cube, perfect) and Ricky (Chestnut). The first, thanks to the leadership and teachings of the father / mentor always present (Fishburne) will learn respect, responsibilities that lead to become man and to stay away from street life. The second, gangster / drug dealer violent but of good heart who sees his true figure Three fraternal, spends his days between the prison and the porch of the house along with his gang of layabouts ready to challenge the gun whenever it presents' occasion. And the third, best friend Three and repugnant to his brother, is a smart guy and insecure, father early, with a bright future before the eyes but totally undecided about which path to take in life. And as usual, between shots of gunfire at night, fights between gangs and helicopters constantly flying over the area, the tragedy will be around the corner ... A film simply wonderful, suffered and moving from the first to the last frame. A work that makes you think, both in terms of sociological and moral, truthful in representing America nineties in all its facets (just before Rodney King riots in Los Angeles), and a strong visual impact and cultural. Also excellent technical side, from a bad direction and courageous and a powerful script (both earned Singleton Academy Award nomination).

Masterpiece, the best movie about life in the ghetto and one of the most important works of the nineties. Dialogue and fraternal embrace finals are sensational, only glimmers of hope of a film that is difficult to be indifferent.

  1. It sounds pretty interesting to me. Even though this film was made some years ago, i think this is a very current issue. Thanks Jamal for sharing that
